Who Volunteers?
Volunteers include medical and public health professionals as well as other community members without healthcare backgrounds who wish to donate their time and expertise. The specific role that you will play, and activities in which you will participate, will depend upon your background, interests, and skills, as well as the needs of the MRC unit and the community.

What We Do

When severe weather, floods, or major disasters displace local families, our team is trained to rapidly deploy and manage emergency shelters. We work alongside county officials to handle registration, distribute blankets and hydration, set up cots, and ensure a safe, organized environment for residents during their time of need.

We believe a resilient community is a prepared community. The MRC actively conducts public education campaigns across Central Wisconsin, empowering everyday citizens through lifesaving instruction in Hands-Only CPR, Basic First Aid, and "Stop the Bleed" trauma intervention.

You don’t need to be a doctor or a nurse to save lives. A massive part of emergency response is purely operational. Our non-medical community volunteers keep the unit running by managing physical supply inventories, setting up staging areas, assisting with administrative check-ins at local events, and tracking emergency resources alongside county leadership. If you can organize a room or manage a spreadsheet, you have a vital place on our team.

When major severe weather strikes Central Wisconsin, traditional cell phone towers and internet grids can fail. Our communications volunteers train to bridge that gap. This team focuses on utilizing auxiliary communications, including amateur (HAM) radio networks, to pass critical safety messages from emergency shelter sites directly back to the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
